I Am a Fairy, and Everything Is Run by Woodcutter Fantasies, 2024, oil on canvas, 48 x 36 inches

Painting is how I explore my relationship to my culture, and my place in the world as a second-generation Korean American woman. My work reckons with issues like cultural dissonance, the pressure and occasional reward of oversexualization, and the fight for reproductive autonomy. Growing up with traditional ideals of gender roles, sexuality, and “good” art, I want my work to contribute to the discussion around the intersections between gender, race, history, and modernity.
