Sul Bagnasciuga di Fiascherino, 2022, oil on canvas, 19.75 x 29.5 inches

“Bagnasciuga” roughly translates from Italian to “shoreline,” which is the barely damp strip of sand that serves as a meeting point between land and sea, dry and wet, hot and cold, a space of transition. The figure depicted while resting on it is my grandpa, someone who I aspire to be like one day, because of the remarkable ability he had to comfortably lay down in the changes that life presents you.
